Hi, I’m Julia!
In the transitional and tumultuous time after someone becomes pregnant, I hope to be a source of continuous grounding, empathetic, and resourceful support. I approach this purpose with the intentions of strengthening intuition, encouraging a positive experience, and diligently advocating for bodily autonomy. Offering doula support to my community is how I advocate for justice. It is important for me to use my education and my voice to empower and advocate for menstruating, pregnant, and birthing people.

I was born in a hospital in California and grew up in the Sierra Foothills. I am the protective middle sibling to a fiery younger brother and whimsical older sister. My call to support people began with them, reading them to bed at night, making our lunches and standing up for them in school.
I started supporting pregnant and parenting individuals as a mentor for high school students, and felt deeply connected to providing support during this transitional life experience. This lead me to earn an internship with a birth center where I witnessed birth for the first time as a midwife’s assistant. This birth was also attended by a doula and I became curious - I had no idea there was such a thing as a professional birth companion! Learning that doulas are so much more than that - supporting the whole person in health settings and at home, preventing trauma and upholding bodily autonomy, filling gaps I had observed in the medical system - I knew, I felt, that this was the role I wanted to offer my community.

I took my first birth doula training in the summer of 2021 and began volunteering with a non-profit that fall, receiving mentorship from experienced doulas. Seven months later I was hired as a doula and doula mentor, supporting over 50 clients and attending over 25 births in homes, birth centers, and hospital settings over the course of a year. Relocating to a different state to be closer to family prompted me to start Doula Jules and offer doula services independently.
